International  Center  for  Isotope  Effects  Research

Nanjing University

About Us

Organization: ICIER is a cross-college and cross-discipline research hub. It is currently based off and growing out of the College of Earth Sciences and Engineering at Nanjing University. All of our faculty members are affiliated with different colleges in Nanjing University, including but not limited to Earth Sciences, Planetary Sciences, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Geography and Oceanography, Atmospheric Sciences, Medical School, and Life Sciences. Both Chinese and English are primary means of scientific communication at ICIER.

Core Identity: Isotope effects are the relative difference in the rate of reaction between different isotopes of an element or isotopologues of a molecule. The differences impart information on reaction kinetics at higher dimensions that otherwise could have been masked in changes of chemical concentrations. International Center for Isotope Effects Research (ICIER) explores isotope effects and applies mass-spectrometry and spectroscopy to fundamental problems in the dynamics and evolution of Earth, planets, and life.
